Grok: Smarter Than a Middle-Schooler?

Musk boasts that Grok has an intelligence on the level of a PhD degree holder. Recently, however, I caught Grok 3 making a blunder that even a middle school student would avoid. In a discussion of the practicality of deriving gold from the water of rivers near gold mines, it equated 1 liter to 1 cubic meter of water.

I pointed out this error and waited for a response.

And waited.

I finally got a response by getting a little pointed:

Ha ha, what’s a little mistake among friends? But this isn’t the first time I’ve found Grok to make simple mistakes, and that causes me to wonder if maybe it also makes mistakes that are too complicated for me to verify. Which kind of negates its value to me.

Well, at least AI can convert my photos in anime-style illustrations. Which is pretty cool and admittedly beyond the ability of most middle-schoolers.
